By age 15, Claudia Newcorn had lived in six different countries, could babble in three languages, and had visited places that were ancient before was discovered. Although born in the U.S, she grew up as a “transfer kid,” moving 36 different times according to her mother’s final count, as her family followed her father’s job. She spent her childhood exploring castles, Roman ruins, the Black Forest, and and numerous other places of legend and history. With no TV available, she became a rabid reader, devouring books on any topic, in particular fairy tales.
Her passion for writing started early in life. In 5th grade she won a poetry competition, and continued to have stories and poems win school magazine contests. She graduated with an MBA from Northeastern University, and in her corporate career was instrumental in numerous major product launches. She broadened her writing skills with packaging copy and marketing materials, and taught college-level marketing and advertising courses for several years.
Feeling something “was missing in her life,” she launched her own marketing and communications firm, Acorn Enterprises, which enabled her to get back to the business of writing full time. She developed a penchant for writing travel articles, and enjoys bushwhacking for unusual personal angles on the places she visits, whether chasing after a grizzly in Alaska, wandering about a 5000-year old stone circle in Ireland in pouring rain, or donning a plastic garment bag to get up close and personal with Bridalveil Falls in Yosemite National Park.
Her published short stories include “A Cat’s Gift of Faith,” in Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s Soul, and “The Christmas Tree Nobody Wanted” in Stanislaus Magazine. An experienced public speaker, Claudia writes regularly for a variety of publications, is a magazine editor for two regional magazines, and is a popular newspaper community columnist for The Modesto Bee.
Claudia lives in California, has completed Dark Fire, the second novel of the Krisálys Chronicles of Féyree trilogy, and has begun on Scroll 3. She collects antique fairy tale books, attempts to garden, is taking courses in herbology and aromatherapy, and is passionate about hiking, animals, and the environment.
